“Latvijas Finieris Green Class” Brings Together 1,200 Children
17.09.2019
On 12 September, 1200 pupils from 50 schools participated in the educational event “Latvijas Finieris Green Class” that was organized by Latvijas Finieris in close cooperation with JSC “Latvia’s State Forests”. The aim of the event was to provide children from Latgale region with an opportunity to get acquainted with forest management and woodworking industry in Latvia in an entertaining way. The interest from the visitors was so great that “Latvijas Finieris Green Class” will become a traditional annual event.
The event took place at the educational and active recreation center “Sarkaņkalns” owned by Latvijas Finieris. On September 12, almost 100 forest professionals from various companies and organizations welcomed the students at 29 different information points throughout the day. Classes attended educational activities and received practical and interesting information about the forest, trees and wildlife, and the sustainable management of these natural assets. At the end of the active day, students discussed what they had seen and experienced at a joint picnic by the bonfires on the top of the Sarkaņkalns hill – one of the most picturesque areas in the area!
Although this event was the first of its kind, the Green Class brand is a proven value – under that name Latvijas Finieris has been organizing educational competitions for students for 10 years.
“We felt it was time to transform the Green Class into a new format. Together with colleagues from JSC “Latvia’s State Forests”, we created an educational event that is aimed specifically at the Latgale region, where such events have not taken place before. Now Latgale children no longer have to spend half a day on the bus to learn about forest management and woodworking in Latvia. Thanks to all the organizations, companies and people who have agreed to participate and fulfill this day – it once again proves the ability of the Latvian forest industry to organize themselves for common goals.”
